1st Tuesday’s Spoken Word is a community-driven arts experience founded by Dr. Terrell Irving and Dr. Karwanna Irving of Big Mouth Productions. Based in San Francisco, California, we create positive spaces for self-expression, healing, and connection through spoken word, poetry, and live performance.
Powered by the Life Skills Organization, our mission is to highlight local talent, celebrate culture, and uplift small businesses that make our neighborhoods thrive. For over a decade, we’ve hosted red-carpet events, poetry workshops, and artist showcases across the Bayview and greater Bay Area, building a creative network rooted in empowerment and unity.
With more than 20 years of combined experience in television production, event curation, and community development, we’ve helped bring real stories and authentic voices to the forefront. Through Big Mouth Productions Television, we’re now expanding 1st Tuesday’s Spoken Word into televised and digital platforms—giving the world a front-row seat to the hidden brilliance within our community.
